Miss Acacia dresses
Khanga’s are traditionally worn by women all
over East Africa, Khangas are vibrant and versatile textiles worn over
skirts, wrapped as dresses, as headscarves or even used to carry babies
safely on their mothers’ backs. Each Khanga carries a Swahili
saying - a message for a loved one or a friend. A Khanga can be chosen
by an admirer declaring his love, by a daughter to thank her mother, by
a friend wishing another good luck in life. Khangas are given to mark
special occasions, religious feasts, birthdays and weddings and they
are treasured for their bold colours,
patterns and designs.
Miss Acacia Khanga Dresses take the most beautiful
African Khangas and tailor them to a contemporary design, capturing the
spirit of African femininity for women all over the world. They
are locally made and hand-finished in Kenya. We do not use
intermediaries or mass labour and have created our own circle of women
tailors who are fairly paid for their work and who benefit directly
from the sale of our dresses. We are committed to maintaining this
spirit by expanding that circle as our company grows and to training
and employing jobless women.
