The ethos behind Afrinity is the welfare of the
local men & women making our products, for some its about learning
a new skill and time is spent on extensive training or developing old
ones through the combination of traditional & contemporary design.
Living & dealing with everyday life in a
country such as Kenya is not what we are used to in the UK. Free
Primary education is provided by the government but not after that,
although children are not provided with uniform, books or writing
implements; which they can’t afford. Most children under
the age of 15 cannot read or write. Jobs are scarce and a lot of
the time their salaries are meagre – inadequate to feed &
clothe their families let alone educate them.
Through the success of Afrinity it will mean that
the Africans involved are better off, able to educate their children,
improve their living conditions and generally lead a better life.
It is our longer term aim to seek Fair Trade Certification.
